MEETING BETWEEN BIPIA AND THE CAPE VERDE COMMUNITY IN IVORY COAST THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2024

MEETING BETWEEN BIPIA AND THE CAPE VERDE COMMUNITY IN IVORY COAST THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2024
On Friday, September 20, 2024, a symbolic meeting took place between the Ivorian Office for the Promotion of African Integration (BIPIA) and the Cape Verdean community in Côte d'Ivoire, representing both parties' commitment to promoting African integration. The meeting was held at the office of the President of the Cape Verdean community, Mrs. Christiane TAVARES, in Treichville, with the participation of several BIPIA officials, including Mrs. TRAORE Solange, Head of the Marketing and Promotion Department, and Messrs. OULAÏ Narcisse and YOBOUE Jean-Baptiste.

The main objective of this meeting was to strengthen the ties between the Cape Verdean community and the Ivorian authorities while progressing on three strategic points: finalizing the Cabo Verde country profile, presenting the "African Integration Cloth" project, and gathering information on the integration model of Cape Verdeans in Côte d'Ivoire.

**Finalization of the Cabo Verde Country Profile**

The first part of the meeting focused on reviewing the Cabo Verde country profile, a key document for the "Community Mapping" project. This initiative aims to better understand the dynamics of the various African communities residing in Côte d'Ivoire. The BIPIA delegation received official documents proving the legal existence of the Cape Verdean association, a crucial step in updating the profile.

**The "African Integration Cloth" Project: A Welcomed Initiative**

Another highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the "African Integration Cloth" project, an initiative aimed at promoting African unity through a symbolic garment. This project was enthusiastically welcomed by Mrs. TAVARES, who praised it as a notable contribution to continental integration. The President expressed her full support for the initiative and suggested that the commercialization of the cloth be facilitated through networking within the Cape Verdean community. The proposed production costs were also deemed reasonable by the attendees.

Integration of Cape Verdeans in Côte d'Ivoire: Challenges and Solidarity

The final point addressed was the integration of Cape Verdeans in Côte d'Ivoire. Mrs. TAVARES provided details on the insertion processes for Cape Verdean nationals, noting that integration is generally done individually, given the lack of formal institutional mechanisms within the community. Nevertheless, she highlighted the solidarity that exists within this diaspora.

She also discussed the difficulties Cape Verdeans face in obtaining visas for Côte d'Ivoire, lamenting the often precarious conditions and bureaucratic obstacles they encounter. She called on the Ivorian government to improve these procedures.

Prospects for Cooperation

As the meeting concluded at 2:40 p.m., Mrs. TAVARES warmly thanked the BIPIA delegation for their commitment and support. She also invited them to visit Cabo Verde to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.

This meeting, rich in exchanges, marks another step toward consolidating community relations and promoting genuine African integration.
